Spider veins are small, thin red or purple colored tiny veins that most commonly appear
on the thighs, calves and ankles. Many factors contribute to the development of spider
veins, including heredity, pregnancy and other events that cause hormonal shifts. They can be of cosmetic concern to both men and women who are embarrassed by their appearance.
Sclerotherpy is the treatment of choice for spider veins described above. A chemical irritant is injected via a very thin needle (thin enough to fit inside the tiny vessel). This
Chemical damages the inner lining of the spider veins, causing them to shrink and dissolve away.
The procedure is safe, and effective with minimal discomfort. There is no limitation on activities and your ability to drive back after treatment has been performed. Some bruising is expected as the blood from the blood vessel is displaced. We encourage you to avoid the sun or exposure to any contaminated waters such as swimming pools, ocean or Jacuzzi.
Temporary redness is expected at injection sites. It takes a few weeks to see the fuIl effect of the treatment of these veins. Often more than one treatment is needed for complete clearance of all of the spider veins.
Ask your dermatologist if they are right for you!
